Diluents mainly include paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, paraffin wax, plant wax, mineral wax and other wax compounds. Generally, the paraffin wax that is close to the melting point of the matrix should be selected. Because the melting point of the wax is too low, the heat resistance of the hot melt adhesive will be reduced. The solubility of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer and wax compounds is greatly related to the content of vinyl acetate and the melting point of wax compounds. Generally, the solubility of wax compounds with large content of vinyl acetate is poor, and the higher the melting point of wax compounds, the worse the solubility.
The role of the tackifier is mainly to increase the bonding strength and flexibility of the hot melt adhesive film, and improve the wettability of the adhesive solution and the bonding surface. The commonly used tackifiers are rosin resin, terpene resin, petroleum resin, coumarone resin and oil soluble phenolic resin. The main component of rosin resin is C19H29COOH, which has more than ten isomers. It has good compatibility with ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer and other matrices. If the softening point is increased, it can be modified by polymerization, esterification and hydrogenation. The main component of terpene resin is (C5H8) n, which is also a variety of isomers. Terpene oil polymer and terpene phenolic polymer are commonly used.
